Overview

Powerful constrictors from Central and South America. Longer-lived than ball pythons. Generally docile but require space and respect.

Enclosure

4ft x 2ft x 2ft or 125-gallon minimum for adults. Sturdy branches for climbing. Secure hides. Excellent ventilation required.

Temperature

Cool side: 75-80°F. Warm side: 85-90°F. Thermal gradient. Sensitive to heat above 95°F. Under-tank heater with thermostat.

Humidity

Moderate (50-70%). Large water bowl for soaking. Lightly spray substrate. Airflow prevents respiratory issues.

Lighting

Crepuscular/nocturnal. UVB not required. 12:12 hour light/dark cycle. Avoid intense daytime heating.

Diet

Hatchlings: pinky mice. Juveniles: small-medium rats. Adults: medium-large rats or rabbits. Juveniles every 5-7 days; adults every 10-14 days.

Handling

Generally docile but strong. Handle with respect and support weight. Avoid handling 48 hours after feeding. Can live 20-30+ years.

Health

Hardy species. Watch for mites, scale rot, respiratory infections, feeding refusal. Regular vet checkups important.

Shipping Note

Ship well but heavier than smaller snakes. Larger insulated containers. Proper support and temperature regulation essential.
